Sons of the Forest - the successor game to the open-world survival horror phenomenon "The Forest" - has been talked about on Reddit and the like more often than one would otherwise think. It's a great game with rave reviews, sure (currently "Very Positive" on Steam - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1326470/Sons_Of_The_Forest/), however, it's being talked about for another reason - a seeming lack of dedicated servers.

The predecessor to this game, "The Forest" came out with dedicated servers years after its original release - so where are the dedicated servers? Can you even purchase/host one?

The answer...

Unfortunately at this point in time (March 2023), Sons of the Forest does not have a dedicated server application, unlike its predecessor The Forest. The developers also have not indicated that a dedicated server application to have a 24/7 server online for you and your friends will be an option in the near future. Southnode will of course host Sons of the Forest when said dedicated server functionality is released, however until then you will have to settle for the P2P hosting option that is located in-game.

Further, the developers haven't released any word on if dedicated servers will be available at all - though it would seem that at some point, they should.
